ACS Initial Assessment
Why take the ACS Initial Assessment Course?
ACS Initial Assessment is only available to gas trainees that are going to take their very first ACS Gas Assessment. You are eligible to take the ACS Initial Assessment and Exam if you have followed an approved learning plan following a recognised learning plan that included mandatory on-site portfolio building.
In some circumstances, experienced gas engineers may also need to undertake ACS Initial Assessment. This arises usually because ACS Gas Qualifications have lapsed and they expired more than 12 months ago.
True Tech Training offers the following ACS Assessment:
- CCN 1/CPA1: Core Gas Safety
- CENWAT 1: Central Heating Boilers
- CPA 1: Combustion Performance Analysis
- CKR 1: Domestic Cookers
- HTR 1: Gas Fires and Wall Heaters
- MET 1: Meters
Before you can book yourself onto the course you must be able to satisfy strict criteria. External candidates must be able to prove that they have undergone approved training. All candidates must have completed an acceptable on-site portfolio that has been completed under the supervision of a registered gas engineer.
Trainees will receive 3-days refresher training ahead of the assessment. The assessment process will then begin. Under exam conditions, the trainee will undergo a series of written assessments that include open and closed book multiple choice papers. You will also need to be assessed practically for every appliance and discipline that forms part of your ACS Initial Assessment.
Following a successful assessment, you will be ready to join the Gas Safe Register as an approved operative either in your own right or on behalf of a Gas Safe Registered company.
You will be required to provide us with:
- Your National Insurance number
- 2 recent colour photographs
Completed portfolio of evidence, supervised and signed off by a registered gas engineer
If you come under the category of someone who has held ACS but this has expired more than 12 months ago, please be aware that training is not a requirement prior to assessment.
Once you have successfully attained your ACS Gas qualifications you may contact Gas Safe Register and apply for membership.
ACS Gas Qualifications must be renewed every 5-years, they are not evergreen. This ensures that all practicing gas engineers are always aware of current legislation and best practice within the industry.
Please note: Acceptance on to this course is subject to you being able to demonstrate that you have followed an approved gas learning plan
If you are an existing Gas Fitter you will be able to undertake the ACS Renewal Course.
